WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. White Plains fought back from early deficits to tie the game late in the fourth quarter before Albertus Magnus pulled away to a 59-53 victory in Mondays opening round of the Slam Dunk Boys Basketball Tournament at the Westchester County Center.
The Tigers (2-3) will play in the bracket consolation game against the loser of the Byram Hills-Poughkeepsie opening-round game Tuesday at 6 p.m. Albertus Magnus (4-1) advanced to the Slam Dunk title game scheduled for 8 p.m. against the winner of the Byram-Poughkeepsie game.
Magnus got balanced scoring from Jack Sullivan and Tyler Sayre, who each scored 16 points, and Pat McGuinness, who added 13. Sullivans three-pointer snapped a 51-51 tie late in the fourth quarter.
Anthony Williams, who scored 14 of his team-high 20 points in the first half for the Tigers, helped lead the comeback. Akeem Williams added 18 points for White Plains and Michael Scotman scored eight.
Akeem Williams hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Tigers to a 16-11 lead, but Magnus outscored the Tigers 20-10 in the second quarter take a 31-26 lead at the half.
Magnus led 45-39 after three quarters until the Williams boys and Jake Sands led a rally that tied the score at 51-51.
