Deputy Consul General Nick Astbury said: “The Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarship programmes for American students.” “This year’s winners from the New York region have interests ranging from theatre to ornithology. They have already demonstrated outstanding leadership in their chosen subjects, and their time in the UK will undoubtedly build on this, enhancing both their expertise and the close and enduring relationship between our two countries."

Named for Secretary of State George C. Marshall, the Marshall Scholarship Programme began in 1953 as a gesture of gratitude to the people of the United States for the assistance that the UK received after World War II under the Marshall Plan.
