WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The White Plains High School PTA will hold a fundraiser to support its Senior Recognition Award on April 10 at Sam’s of Gedney Way.
Each recipient gets a $200 scholarship. To earn it, seniors must complete at least 30 community service hours and submit a written essay describing their most meaning volunteer experiences. In 2012, 62 seniors received the award. They gave a total of 6,545 hours of community service, which is an average of 102 hours each.
This year, more college-bound seniors are expected to achieve the award. To help fund the scholarships, the high school PTA is holding a Dine Out for a Cause at Sam’s of Gedney Way on April 10. That night, 10 percent of the American bistro’s gross revenue and 100 percent of the guest maître ‘d’s tips will go toward the fund.
