Children’s author Bruce Larkin has pledged to donate one book for every person who "Likes" his website by clicking the Facebook icon on the upper left hand corner of his home page. So far, the page has 130 Facebook likes.

The literacy event’s goal is to provide students with greater access to books at home. A 2010 study by the International Sociological Association Research Committee showed children who have access to many books at home growing up go further in school than those who don’t. The study, which analyzed 70,000 families from 27 nations, also showed children with low-education families can do as well as children with high-education families if they have access to books at home.

The primary source of funding for the PTA Free Book Fair is the WPPTA, a 501(c) Non-for Profit that relies on donations for additional support. The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 at Eastview Middle School, 350 Main St.
