WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Timothy Reinholdt, 7, still reads the book he got from Post Road Elementary School's Author/Illustrator night two years ago and said he can't wait for Thursday when the bi-annual event returns.
Reinholdt's mother Kerri, of White Plains, bought him "Hurricanes and Tornadoes" by Kate Waters because of his interest in science.
"There was an author there with a science book and the woman signed it for him and he still to this day carries the book and remembers the lady's name," said Kerri Reinholdt, co-treasurer of the Post Road PTA. "It was a memorable experience for him."
Lori Molo, a first grade teacher at Post Road, works with Barnes & Noble to organize the event every other year. This year, she said there are 41 authors and illustrators participating. The event is open to kids from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade from any White Plains elementary school.
"It offers the kids a chance to meet the author who wrote the books that they're reading, and they get them inscribed," Kerri said.
Books from participating authors will be on sale Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and kids can get their new books signed from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Cash and checks will be accepted. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the PTA to help fund programs for the school.
