White Plains High's Owen Named State P.E. Teacher Of The Year

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – White Plains High School physical education teacher Laura Owen recently was named 2014 Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Owen, who has taught at White Plains High for 13 years, received the award Friday, Nov. 21 in Verona.

“Laura’s commitment, dedication and passion for her students, athletes, the school community and her profession is unmatched,” Jennifer DeSena, coordinator of athletics and physical education at White Plains High, said in a press release.

“She is dedicated to creating a curriculum that teaches her students not only the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle, but also the importance of being ‘physically educated.’”

Owen serves at the southeastern zone president for New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and has made numerous presentations related to diversity and physical education throughout the state.
