WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Highlands Middle School Principal Jonathan Brown's resignation was accepted Tuesday at a special meeting of the White Plains Board of Education.

Brown is the second school official to resign in the last month, after School Superintendent Chris Clouet accepted a position Feb. 14 at the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns. He will replace Tarrytowns Schools Superintendent Howard Smith, who is retiring in June after 11 years in the district.

No plans have been announced on replacing Clouet when he leaves at the end of the school year. Board President Rosemarie Eller said the board doesn't want to rush the search.

Tuesday, dozens of community members asked the White Plains school board to reject Brown's resignation at the meeting, according to published reports. Brown’s resignation is effective June 30.
