White Plains High School Honors Alumni Thursday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Distinguished alumni of White Plains High School will be inducted into its 66-member Hall of Fame in a “much anticipated ceremony” on Thursday.

“Hall of Fame Day is a day that’s special and looked forward to by the school community and White Plains community,” said Amy Geiger, co-chair of the Hall of Fame steering committee. “During the day, we have the inductees come and spend time with our present students. They go into classes and clubs and meet with the kids. They are wonderful flesh-and-blood role models for our present students.”

Honorees Oscar Moore, Robert J. Benziger, Dr. Steven J. Corwin and Jody Cohan Prysock lead different lives, but their induction and graduation from White Plains High School connects them.

Moore (’56) was a U.S. distance runner in the 1964 Olympics and then later a college track and field coach. Benziger (’71) is a founder of Benziger Family Winery in Sonoma County, Calif. Corwin (’73) is the chief executive officer of New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Prysock (’75) is the director of language, cultural and disability services at New York University’s Langone Medical Center.

They were nominated by the public and then selected by a committee created from representatives of civic and school groups. The four were chosen for the 16th class because of “success in their chosen career or significant contribution to community and society,” Geiger said.

Geiger, a 1964 alumna, has been co-chair since the Hall of Fame began in 1996. She is looking forward to the day.

“It’s fun for everybody – I would call it a wonderful day,” Geiger said. “It’s special and wonderful for everyone who participates. We’ve had inductees come from California to do this. And each and every one of them enjoys the time with students and thinks White Plains High School students are impressive and terrific.”

The free and public induction ceremony will start at 3 p.m. in the high school media center.
