WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Voters passed the White Plains schools $199.9 million budget with more than 80 percent of the vote Tuesday night, according to unofficial results.
With 1,096 ballots cast, 81.57 percent voted in favor of the budget, which complies with the state-mandated tax cap. The district plans to increase the tax levy 2.55 percent.
Homeowners with an average assessed home of $15,000 would pay $255.15 more in school taxes, $600.22 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The budget adds a second security resource officer for $100,000 and one elementary teacher to keep average class sizes to less than 22 students.
Board President Rosemarie Eller received 929 votes and trustee Randy Stein received 879 votes. Both were uncontested in their bids for re-election.
