Berkeley College’s Humanities 205 course presented its Student Film Festival on June 18 at the campus located at 99 Church St., in White Plains. Five short films tackled individual and societal issues such as gang violence, good and bad individual choices, the value of time management, and mental illness.
Using only available technology, students directed and produced five-minute films, as well as write a paper, as their course capstone project.
Students chose between their own themes or related to popular feature films such as “Psycho” or “Silence of the Lambs.”
"Doing film production is not easy," said Berkeley student Takyra Couch in a statement.
Challenges included dealing with and scheduling actors, editing and informing the audience of what happened, said the students in a statement.
“Including the option of producing a film in the Art of Film course is a choice Berkeley is glad to offer, based on the creativity of the instructor and interest in integrating real-life scenarios as part of the learning process,” said Michael Jacobs, PhD, English Department Chair, Berkeley College School of Liberal Arts in a statement.
