WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains High School students who are members of the National Art Honor Society visited the Head Start pre-school program near the school last week to mentor students.

They developed and taught age-appropriate art lessons for 2- and 3-year old children. The Art Honor Society inspires and recognizes students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. It strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character and service and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. There are approximately 50 members.

Other community service projects of the group this year were the creation of two murals in the high school’s media center in memory of guidance counselor Guy Mathews, and the development of bookmarks to raise money for literacy around the world.

Adviser to the group is art teacher Michael Chiariello.
