Westchester Girls To Showcase Science, Technology Skills In Swag Day

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Women in Technology at Pace University will present its 2015 SWAG showcase day on Saturday, Dec. 12 in Pleasantville. 

Area high school girls will conclude their 9 week SWAG program this weekend with their capstone presentations as well as a panel of notable female tech professionals.

SWAG, or Stem Women Achieve Greatness, is a computing and technology program developed for Westchester sophomore and junior high school girls in an effort to increase female involvement in STEM fields. Members of SWAG met Saturday mornings for nine weeks, and took part in projects including cybersecurity principles, building and testing water robots and creating interactive devices using software.

On Saturday, the 30 SWAG students will present their capstone projects and hear from several leading women in technology. The panelists will include:

  • Ursuline Foley, CIO Corp. & Enterprise Enablement , XL Catlin
  • Margaret Honey, President & CEO, New York Hall of Science
  • Nasrin Rezai, Chief Information Security Officer, GE Capital
  • Judy Spitz, Chief Information Officer, Verizon
  • Clare van den Blink, Vice President & CIO, Pace University

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Gottesman Room, Kessel Student Center on the Pleasantville campus.
