Two White Plains High School Students Recognized For Work In Science

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Two White Plains High School seniors are making their names known in the science world.

Max Golden, a senior in the White Plains High School Science Research Program, recently received the Acorda Scientific Excellence Award. The award recognizes Westchester and Putnam County high school students "who are engaged in highly significant scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical (STEM) research," district representatives said.

Golden's study, “The Effects of Temperature and Pressure on the Growth of Graphene by Chemical Vapor Deposition of Ethylene on CuNi(111)” demonstrated a new approach to growing grapheme as a potential for large scale production.

White Plains senior in the Science Research Program, Diana Medina, has had her research submitted for publication. Medina is the first author credited in a study called “Adverse Effects of Daylight Savings Time on Adolescents’ Sleep and Performance.”
