WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. There are 12 new teachers at Archbishop Stepinac High School this year, including Patrick Massaroni and Joe Palatucci, both of whom call the White Plains Catholic boys school their alma mater.
The two White Plains residents will teach history, along with fellow alumni Robert Yapchanyk of Yonkers, who graduated from Iona College and is now attending Manhattanville College. Massaroni graduated from Marist College and James Madison University, while Palatucci graduated from PACE University.
Stepinac is proud of its accomplished alumni and we are honored that 21 alumni are on board for the start of the 2012-2013 school year, said the Rev. Thomas Collins, president of Stepinac High School. These individuals share great passion for Stepinacs loyalty, dedication and spirit, and want todays students to have the same experience that they had.
Of the 12 new teachers, nine have filled newly created positions.
We have been fortunate to be able to add a combination of new and experienced faculty members who enable us to continue our efforts to broaden and raise academic standards, Principal Paul Carty said. In a difficult job market for teachers, Stepinac has not only been able to fill vacancies, but add positions.
In addition to the history department, new positions have been added in math, foreign language, religion, science and art. The following is a list of all the new teachers at Stepinac this year:
Math Department
- Thomas Kelly of Peekskill, N.Y. He is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and currently enrolled at CUNY.
- Michele Bendlin of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. She is a graduate of Keene State College and Mercy College.
Foreign Language Department
- Cheryl Fialkovic of Yonkers, N.Y. She is a graduate of Iona College.
- Lisbeth Furke of New Rochelle, N.Y. She is a graduate of Fordham University. She has a graduate degree from University of Navarre in Spain and Iona College and was a NYC Teaching Fellow.
Religion Department
- Amanda Iles of Scarsdale, N.Y. She is a graduate of Boston College.
Science Department
- Elliot Lippner of Ossining, N.Y. He is a graduate of Binghamton College and currently enrolled at CUNY.
- Ines Silva of Ossining, N.Y. She is a graduate of Iona College.
- Ron Schoenherr of White Plains, N.Y. He is a graduate of SUNY Purchase and CUNY College.
Art Department
- Alumnus, Joe Lore of Yonkers, N.Y. He is a graduate of Roger Williams College.
History Department
- Alumnus Patrick Massaroni of White Plains, N.Y. He is a graduate of Marist College and James Madison University.
- Alumnus, Joe Palatucci of White Plains, N.Y. He is a graduate of PACE University.
