More than 209 fathers and significant male caregivers attended the Tuesday event with their young ones at the Alice E. Grady Elementary School and the Carl L. Dixson Primary School.

This is the second year the Elmsford Union Free School District has taken part in the national initiative that encourages men to become active in their children’s education.

“The level of participation was tremendous,” said Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca.

Dixson dads were treated to a photo shoot while at Grady, breakfast was provided.

Dixson children were asked to sign their names on a certificate honoring their caregivers. It was later returned to each child with a photo of his or her dad attached.

New York’s program is sponsored by its Office of Children and Family Services and Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

Ricca thanked the dads for participating in the event Tuesday.

“You may think it’s just a little thing. But it’s not," Ricca said. "Just being present makes a huge positive difference.
