WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Heather C. Briccetti. Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer of The Business Council of New York State, Inc., has been elected to the Berkeley College Board of Trustees

Briccetti’s nomination was unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees on Jan. 15.

“Throughout her career, Heather has been a strong advocate of partnerships between higher education, business and government that are critical to the economic vitality of the State of New York,” said Kevin L. Luing, Chairman of the Berkeley College Board of Trustees. “We value Ms. Briccetti’s leadership and the business and legislative experience she brings to advancing Berkeley’s mission.”

The Business Council of New York State named Briccetti president in 2012, following her successful tenure as its vice president of government affairs since 2007. Briccetti also served as a consultant for Powers & Company, where she advised clients on a range of issues including economic development projects in New York City such as the Javits Center expansion and the new Yankee Stadium.

“Berkeley College is one of New York’s leading educational institutions, and I am honored to serve on its Board of Trustees. Berkeley’s commitment to workforce development, through career-focused education, is exactly what our state’s educational, business, and political leaders need to be focused on.” said Ms. Briccetti.

Briccetti’s career achievements include serving as assistant counsel to the New York State Senate majority, as a legislative aide and counsel to the New York State Assembly majority committee on Racing and Wagering, and special counsel in the New York State Attorney General’s office. She also founded a private law practice, Sweeney & Wollowitz, and was the chief public defender for Rensselaer County, earlier in her career.

Born in Tunisia to Peace Corps volunteers, Briccetti was raised in Syracuse. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at 16, she transferred to the State University of New York at Binghamton, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, and by the age of 23, she earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School. Briccetti resides in New York’s Capital Region, on a farm with her three sons.

A leader in providing career-focused education since 1931, Berkeley College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and enrolls approximately 8,300 students – including more than 700 international students – in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree and Certificate programs. Berkeley College has three New York locations – Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn and White Plains; and six New Jersey locations – Clifton, Dover, Newark, Paramus, Woodbridge and Woodland Park.
