WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Andy DeStephano, director of athletics at Berkeley College in White Plains, has been named the Garth Pleasant Honorary Athletic Director of the Year by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
According to the USCAA, DeStephano was selected for “his strong advocacy and leadership.” DeStephano was named director of athletics at Berkeley College in 2013. Since joining the athletics department in 2010, he has been instrumental in overseeing the creation and implementation of six intercollegiate varsity sports; a new state-of-the-art athletic website; and an annual athletic banquet.
Also under his leadership, the college secured its first national title when the men’s basketball team won the USCAA Division II national championship in March.
“We are extremely proud of all that Andy has accomplished and the great work that will continue to happen in Berkeley College athletics under his leadership,” said Dallas Reed, vice president of student development and campus life.
In addition to being named USCAA Athletic Director of the Year, DeStephano will serve as president of Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the 2015-16 season.
DeStephano joined Berkeley College in 2008 as an adjunct instructor of management, Larry L. Luing School of Business. He was named assistant athletic director in 2010 and was promoted to associate athletic director in 2012.
He has an M.B.A. from Centenary College and a B.S. in sports management from St. John’s University.
