Students took part in a residency with a teaching artist and dietitian. A cross-curriculum approach was used, integrating science concepts with themes of increased physical activity and healthy eating concepts, and art concepts such as color and design choices, measuring, scaling, painting and the preservation of art.
The students were taught to make healthy breakfasts and lunches together, and track their fruit and vegetable intake in a diary, fostering math skills.
Ninety third-grade students worked with teaching artist Tova Snyder to create five nutrition-themed murals that encourage healthy eating and lifestyles.
The murals are installed in various locations inside and outside the school's cafeteria.
