Officials say that at the beginning of the school day on Wednesday, Dec. 14, a School Resource Officer at Lackey High School was advised by administrators that a student was found to be in possession of four handgun magazines in his backpack, one of which contained ammunition.

Investigators were able to locate the student and recovered the ammunition, though a search of the handgun did not lead to the recovery of any weapons.

The student was charged on a juvenile offense report and later released to a parent, according to the sheriff’s office, who said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the case has been asked to contact Cpl. Plunkett at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office by calling (301) 609-3282 ext. 469.
