The fourth tornado, in Windham County, in the Town of Plainfield, was confirmed as an EF0, (the weakest of the six levels on the Enhanced Fujita Scale), as a powerful storm swept across the state, said Accu Weather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker.
Walker said the tornado traveled for a six-mile path with winds that could have reached up to 100 mph.
During the tornado, Walker said hardwood trees, small tree tops farm buildings, and utility wires were damaged.
"There was no recorded damage to any homes," he added.
These types of tornadoes usually occur during the months of May through June, said the National Weather Service.
The other confirmed tornadoes in Connecticut were:
- New Haven County EF-0: Branford
- New Haven County EF-0: Cheshire
- New London County EF-1: Stonington
Four tornadoes also touched down in New York, all on Long Island.
Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into six categories:
- EF0 - Weak, winds of 65 to 85 mph
- EF1 - Weak, winds of 86 to 110 mph
- EF2 - Strong, winds of 111 to 135 mph
- EF3 - Strong, winds of 136 to 165 mph
- EF4 - Violent, winds. of 166 to 200 mph
- EF5 - Violent, winds of more than 200 mph
