Whichever side of the debate you are on, the details will be discussed in a meeting Tuesday, July 18, at 6 p.m. at Two Steps Downtown Grille.

A flier from OTB supporters invites CityCenter property owners, business owners and stakeholders.

The event promises to offer a presentation that will give a "clear understanding" of the proposal to allow an off-track betting parlor proposed for a downtown restaurant.

"The purpose of this meeting is to clear up a lot of the misconceptions concerning the OTB proposal between Two Steps Downtown Grille and Sportech," the flier sys.

There is a plan to complete a $750,000 renovation at Two Steps and add an off-track-betting facility. In May, the plan was approved by Danbury’s Zoning Commission.

The renovation would be funded by Sportech Venues, which has licensing rights to OTB in Connecticut and is behind a new betting facility at the new Bobby V's Restaurant & Sports Bar opening in a new location in downtown Stamford this month.

Critics say an OTB facility can increase crime in the area and hurt efforts to revitalize downtown Danbury.

Last month, Andrea Gartner, owner of the new Pour Me Cafe, filed an appeal against the Zoning Commission and Sportech over the decision to allow OTB.

She says the location is inappropriate, citing the proximity to the campuses of Western Connecticut State University and Naugatuck Valley Community College as well as the CityCenter Danbury Green, where families gather for summer concerts and other events.
