Most skin cancers, including melanoma, can be cured if detected early. The free Skin Cancer Screening Program is to promote early detection and prompt treatment of skin cancer. The screening is for Bergenfield residents, 18 years and older.
From 9:30 a.m. until noon on June 9, a practitioner from the Advanced Laser & Skin Cancer Center will conduct the screening clinic, at the Bergenfield Borough Hall second floor, 198 North Washington Ave. Call the Health Department at 201-387- 4055, ext. 5, to schedule an appointment.
The clinic is for Bergenfield residents not currently under the care of a dermatologist.
Periodic self-exams of your skin are also recommended, to keep an eye out for any changes in skin or moles. Remember to examine your scalp, feet and back as well, and follow up with a dermatologist if you observe any changes.
