No license, registration or insurance for DUI driver in Saddle Brook police chase

ONLY ON CVP: An unlicensed Passaic driver behind the wheel of an unregistered, uninsured car led a Saddle Brook patrol officer on a predawn chase today into Clifton with his headlights off — blowing red lights and weaving across lanes — before he finally pulled over in Clifton, Police Chief Robert Kugler said.

Officer Darrin Williams initially tried stopping the 1997 Honda, which Kugler said was traveling west on Route 46 without headlights around 3 a.m.

But the driver — identified as 27-year-old Luis Rodriguez of Passaic — kept going, “weaving in and out of the travel lanes, not stopping for red traffic signals and driving erratically,” the chief said.

The pursuit continued onto southbound Route 21 into Clifton, where he finally pulled over, Kugler said.

Rodriguez was released pending a court hearing on charges and summonses involving DUI, eluding, reckless driving and driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle while unlicensed.

The Honda was impounded.
