George LeCates Jr., 81; Worked In Ridgefield Schools, Korean War Vet

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- George L. LeCates Jr. of Ridgefield died on Jan. 10 at Danbury Hospital. He was 81.

LeCates was born in Norwalk on Oct. 6, 1933, and was the son of George H. LeCates, Sr. and Ethel J. Drenyoczsky LeCates.

He was a graduate of Bassick High School in Bridgeport, Class of 1951, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from the Ridgefield School system, where he had been maintenance foreman, and previously had worked for Remington Rand, Hatch & Bailey and C.R. Gibson in Norwalk. He was also a member of the American Legion in Ridgefield.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann; son George H. LeCates III (Evelyn); daughter Tracey Ann LeCates Petry; a granddaughter; brother and sister-in-law Alan and Judy Tucker of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he  was also predeceased by his sister, Doris Savulski, and granddaughter Angela Karen D’Aquila.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
