What's Happening in Stamford This Week

STAMFORD, Conn. — The city’s operating budget may come under fire this week with a Board of Representatives meeting Monday and a public hearing Thursday. Read below to get the details about both events as well as others in Stamford this week.

Monday, March 26

1 p.m.: The young ones are sure to enjoy the musical styling of Dr. Ev at the Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza. The program is designed for children 5 and under.

4:15 p.m.: Let your children get a hands-on science experience at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, with its weekly Spot of Science program. Admission is $5 to $10. The program is recommended for children 5 and older.

7 p.m.: The Fiscal Committee for the Board of Representatives will meet and discuss the budgets of several departments, including the Water Pollution Control Authority. The meeting will be in the Democratic Caucus Room at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Tuesday, March 27

7 p.m.: The Board of Representatives’ Public Safety and Health Committee will be discussing an ordinance regarding smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, among other items. The meeting will be at the Republican Caucus Room at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

7 p.m.: The city’s Board of Education will be meeting in the board’s 5th floor conference room in the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd.

Wednesday, March 28

7 p.m.: Come find out how you affect your child’s success in life at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road. Andrée Aelion Brooks has done research into the impact of parents’ success on their children.

7:30 p.m.: Learn all about the Beatles album “Revolver” in a multimedia exploration using stories, and rare audio and video. The event will be hosted by musician, educator and Beatle expert Scott Freiman at the Avon Theatre, 272 Bedford St. Tickets are $6 to $11.

Thursday, March 29

Noon: Come hear all about the empowerment of women from Ester Grant-Tinsley, IDA Project Assistant at CTE, at the South End Branch of the Ferguson Library, 34 Woodland Ave.

6 p.m.: Experts from Stamford Hospital will teach you all about colon care and the dangers of colorectal cancer at Protect Your Bottom. The panel discussion will take place at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court.

6:15 p.m.: Share what you like and don’t like about the mayor’s proposed budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year with the Board of Finance and Board of Representatives’ Fiscal Committee at Westhill High School, 125 Roxbury Road.

Friday, March 30

6 p.m.: Take a trip around the world without leaving the cafeteria at Rippowam Middle School, 411 High Ridge Road, as the Academy of Information, Technology, & Information holds its 8th Annual International Evening. Advance ticket prices are $5 per person, $10 per family, or at the door: $7 per person, $15 per family.

6:30 p.m.: The Stamford Innovation Center will be hosting its first Start-Up Weekend with attendees suggesting their business ideas, and by Sunday making a pitch for the idea to investors in an intense 54-hour span. Tickets are $99 for attendees, $49 for students and $20 for investors. The innovation center is located in Old Town Hall, 175 Atlantic St., Stamford.

7 p.m.: Grab your flashlight and hiking boots and learn all about the different toads, frogs and other amphibians at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, for its annual Amphibian Amble.
