ARMONK, N.Y. - The Byram Hills Winter Art Show will be held Thursday at Byram Hills High School, with the exhibit open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Art created by students in grades six to 12 will be on display, from paintings and drawings to photography and ceramic sculpture.
Joy Varley, the Byram Hills School District's director of fine arts, said, "It's a very strong exhibit. For anyone interested in getting a clear understanding of our art curriculum you can see the growth from students in sixth grade to the Advanced Placement art work we offer at the high school. You get a good sense of how much they learn when you see the show."
Amy Menasche, a Byram Hills High School art teacher, who teaches graphic design, studio art and sculpture, said the show demonstrates how students have developed a variety of skills. "The studio art students have learned how to draw and develop observational skills while the sculptors are more problem solving oriented. Graphic design students are also strong in visual problem solving and coming up with a way to respond."
Hundreds of art works are exhibited in the show with all students represented, according to Menasche. There are sections devoted to advanced drawing and painting, advanced photograpy, ceramic animals, coil bowls and other sculptures.
