WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Westchester County Board of Legislators passed a resolution to have a public referendum this fall on its annual budget deadlines.
The proposal would change the date the county executive is required to submit the capital budget to the board from Nov. 15 to Oct. 15 annually. Also, the submission deadline for the annual operating budget would be moved from Nov. 15 to Nov. 10.
The countywide referendum is the first to be voted on by the general electorate since 2000. It is intended to give more time for the legislators and the public to review the budget before a vote.
The fall election takes place Nov. 3.
