WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- With the presidential election quickly approaching, the League of Women Voters of White Plains recruited nearly 50 volunteers to register new voters on Tuesday, Sept. 27 which was National Voter Registration Day.
Oct. 19 is the deadline to register or update your registration in New York state.
In an effort to get young people involved in the electoral process, the League assigned volunteers to area colleges including The College of Westchester, Berkeley College, Manhattanville College and Pace Law School, plus volunteers at the White Plains Galleria Mall and the White Plains YMCA.
Madeline Zevon, a spokeswoman for the White Plains LWV, said the League's members and volunteers were out in force and available to assist voters who wanted to register or update their registration if they have moved since the last election.
See the League's web site here for details including registration location addresses and times.
“This election is important, and every eligible American deserves the chance to weigh in,” said Stephen Cohen, president of the League of Women Voters of White Plains. “Voter registration is the key to helping shape the future of our country. We want to make sure everybody who wants the opportunity to vote on Election Day has their registration up to date by October 19th.”
"We believe our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard," Cohen said.
