Lowey was joined by Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and White Plains Mayor Tom Roach for a walking tour of White Plains businesses. The congresswoman has supported tax cuts for small businesses and has championed funding for the Small Business Administration business loan programs, microloans and workshops to help small businesses get off to a successful start. In 2014, the SBA supported more than $44 million in 7(a) and 504 loans to small businesses in the 17th District. As ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, Lowey has vowed to continue supporting small businesses in the Lower Hudson Valley.
Lowey also visited Tarrytown for the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester “In the Company of Women” seventh annual benefit luncheon with keynote speaker Judge Glenda Hatchett, Hochul and YWCA CEO Maria Imperiale.
The YWCA offers women a welcoming home at the YWCA Residence, provides children with early care and education programs, supports critical needs of developmentally disabled children and empowers voices on social justice. Lowey said she will continue to help reinforce the YWCA’s efforts by protecting federal aid that supports victims of domestic violence and Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
Lowey also joined fellow congregants and Rabbi Eytan Hammerman by welcoming Hochul to the Westchester Jewish Council/UJA-Federation of New York's Westchester Government Relations Breakfast at the JCC of Harrison.
Lowey discussed her efforts in Congress to prioritize issues important to the community – such as biomedical research, transportation infrastructure, tax reform and education and job training initiatives – and the need to unequivocally stand behind Israel in the United Nations, to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to combat anti-Semitism at home and abroad.
