The debate, which included panelists/reporters from The Journal News, The Daily Voice and The Enterprise and a standing room only crowd, was a lead up to the Sept. 10 primary that will be held at local polling places from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sponsored by the Democratic Committees of Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Central Greenburgh, the debate at the James Harmon community Center lasted two hours with each candidate discussing general issues on management approaches, town development and coming property tax assessments. Bernstein stressed the need for new leadership and a change from Feiner's 11-term hold on the position, while Feiner claimed that his term in office has been successful and should continue. Town Clerk candidates Sherron Fantauzzi and incumbent Judith Beville gave three-minute addresses to the debate audience. Among the issues discussed were the pending sale of the Frank's Nursery property, a penalty for the law suit brought by the Fortress Bible Church which could cost the Town up to $5 million or more, the need for a professional town manager and the possibility of Edgemont's separation from the town.
