Democrats Lead In White Plains City Council Race

UPDATED 2 a.m. Wednesday : WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- With 89 percent of districts reporting, the Democrats lead the race for the three open seats on the White Plains City Council.

Democrats John Kirkpatrick, Beth Smayda and John Martin each had 22 percent of the vote, Republican Claudia Murphy had 13 percent, Republican Anne Marie Encarnacao had 11 percent and Carl Albanese had 10 percent.

Encarnacao is a White Plains resident.

The incumbent Kirkpatrick served as Westchester Chair of the N.Y. League of Conservation Voters.

Martin, also an incumbent, is a White Plains resident who is former president of the Fisher Hill Association.

Murphy is a White Plains resident who is treasurer of the Carhart Neighborhood Association. She is the owner of Happy Paws Pet Sitting in White Plains.

Smayda is an incumbent who has served as council president since January 2012, and was elected to the council in 2010.
