The war of words began when Gibson, who is retiring from congress, said Astorino would be taking away from his job as county exec if he were to spend a year or more trying to win the gubernatorial race, Capital New York said.

Astorino replied by saying he still hadn't decided if he would run for governor in 2018, and that it was possible he wouldn't seek re-election in 2017. Instead, Astorino said both he and Gibson should continue to do their jobs, Capital New York reported.
