WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. A Macys security guard was bitten on the forearm by an Elmsford woman who was later charged with stealing $547.50 worth of merchandise from the White Plains Galleria store, according to the police report.
Crystal Ewing, 51, was charged Friday evening with petit larceny and third-degree assault, both misdemeanors.
Store security told police they chased the suspect outside of the Galleria Mall store near Court Street and Martine Avenue. The police report said Ewing was seen taking six wallets worth $250 and five ties worth $297.50 in the mens department and hiding them in a black and blue backpack.
When security confronted the suspect as she tried to leave without paying, the report said she threw the backpack at them and ran. Security caught her on the corner of Court Street and Martine Avenue, but she struggled with them, eventually biting a security officers right forearm, police said. The security officer suffered swelling, broken skin and pain from the injury, the report said.
The victim was treated at the White Plains Hospital emergency room. The suspect was arrested and held on $500 bail.
