WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A trio of area teens charged with marijuana possession tried to run from police inside the White Plains Galleria Mall parking lot staircase, according to a police report.
The two Greenburgh teens, aged 16, and one Mount Vernon teen, aged 17, were caught and arrested, police said.
Police on patrol in the parking structure last Friday night smelled what they believed to be marijuana on the seventh level staircase. They saw the three teens on the sixth level staircase inhaling from a brown hand-rolled cigarette, police said.
As the officers approached them, the teens took off running toward the Martine Avenue side of the garage. The 17-year-old suspect exited and ran toward Martine Avenue and Court Street, while the other two were stopped and arrested on the third level of the garage, police said. The officers recovered a cigar with what they believed to be marijuana in one of the 16-year-olds’ pants pocket and a clear plastic ziplock bag in his book bag.
On the other teen, police said they found a small pink-tinted plastic Ziploc bag with what they believed to be marijuana in his sweat shirt pocket.
The older teen disposed of the cigar he was holding after leaving the parking garage, then returned to the police and said he had nothing on him.
All three were arrested and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Two were released on $250 bail while the third was held for court.
