Hundreds of family members, many of them active or retired from law enforcement careers, stood and cheered as their loved ones' names were called during a ceremony at SUNY Purchase.

"You can hoot and holler all you want,'' Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino told the audience.

The 139th graduating class involved 13 Westchester County police departments, as well as recruits destined for the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and Rockville Centre, Long Island.

Astorino called their months of training "the best there is. . . .These new officers are in the streets at a very turbulent time. . . . I will stand with you and I will have your back no matter what comes your way."

Westchester County Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth said, "We come together today to celebrate success. . . .We demanded their best and they gave it to us."

And Irvington Police Chief Michael Cerone, who is president of the Westchester County Chiefs of Association, said, "Remember your training and use it."
