Three Inducted Into Mt. Kisco Rescue Fire Police

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Three new members were inducted Tuesday into the Rescue Fire Police, one of the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department's four companies, at the Board of Trustees meeting.

Mayor Michael Cindrich administered the oath of office to each new member: Glenn Marks; Matthew Muccioli, son of Rescue Fire Police Chief Mario Muccioli; and Daniel Slatery.

“This is a distinct honor for me to swear in members of the Rescue Fire Police,” said the mayor, who presided as each man pledged to uphold his office, accompanied by a friend or family member standing as witness.

Eighteen-year-old Matthew Muccioli, who graduated from Fox Lane High School last year, said he has been working with the department for 10 months, but has been watching his dad since he was a child.

He recently completed the Firefighter 1 training course to become an interior firefighter, a distinction that authorizes him to work in burning buildings.

Muccioli said his ultimate ambition is to become a paid firefighter, so he plans to stay at the Mount Kisco Department as long as possible.

Marks, who has been with the department for one year, said he joined because he “want[s] to help the community” and the good people who live there. Preserving public safety is what is most important, Marks said.

Deputy Mayor George Griffin said he was impressed with the strong show of volunteerism on display that night, a true reflection of the village’s character.

Griffin remarked that it is not uncommon to have multiple generations of volunteers in Mount Kisco, as seen with Matthew Muccioli and his father the chief.

“Tonight was the perfect example of the volunteerism in Mount Kisco,” he said. “We’re one of the few villages that have such a strong volunteer base."

Griffin also praised the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department's dedication to the village in sponsoring the town's new 9/11 monument, which celebrated its first anniversary this year.

The night’s third inductee, Daniel Slatery, has the most firefighting experience of all three men, with four years at the Ossining Fire Department under his belt. He said he was pleased to be officially joining Mount Kisco after only a few months with the crew.

“I guess I’ve wanted to be a firefighter ever since I was a kid,” he said. As a department member, he said, his duties include crowd control, traffic control and managing firefighting equipment.
