Suspected Drug Deal Broken Up In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Police broke up a suspected drug deal at a bus stop and seized 3.3 ounces of marijuana from a 27-year-old White Plains man, according to an arrest report by the White Plains Police Department.

David Lopez was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. He was found with a bag containing 106 individually wrapped ziplock bags of suspected marijuana, the report says.

While standing at a bus stop on the corner of Mamaroneck and Livingston avenues at 7:34 p.m. on Sept. 14, Lopez was seen holding a white sack and another man holding an unknown amount of money and looking into the sack. When the pair saw officers in a marked police car, they hid the sack and money.

Suspecting the pair were dealing drugs, the officers stopped both men to talk, the report says. The officers separated the men and asked them what they were doing. The second man told police Lopez was a friend and they were waiting for the bus together. He added he owed him money. An officer asked Lopez what was in the sack and, according to the report, Lopez handed him his back pack, which contained the white sack. Police said the sack contained 84 red- and 22 yellow-tinted ziplock bags of what police believed to be marijuana.

Police also found that the second man had $185 in cash consisting of $5s, $10s, $20s and one $100 bill, which the report said is common with drug deals.

Lopez was arrested and held on $500 bail. The second man was released at the scene. At headquarters, police weighed the recovered marijuana, which had an aggregate weight of 3.3 ounces, the report says.
