Police: 'Would-Be' White Plains Robber Still Hospitalized With Gun Wound

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The man who police say tried to rob a White Plains warehouse Friday morning and was injured when his gun went off during a struggle is still hospitalized and charges are pending.

Freedom Moving Company was the target of an attempted robbery, in which the suspect was hit by a bullet from his own gun, police say.

Police are still interviewing everyone who was involved in the 8 a.m. incident, in which the suspect approached two employees at 39 Westmoreland Ave. and threatened them with a gun, Det. Lt. Eric Fischer said.

The two Freedom Moving Co. employees got in a physical altercation with the suspect, when the gun went off, hitting him in the leg, police said. It is unknown how the gun went off or what the suspect was after since police have not yet spoken to him due to his condition.

Police had planned to visit the suspect in the hospital Monday afternoon. He will likely face charges for the attempted robbery, Fischer said.

Another shooting that took place just three hours earlier Friday sent a man and woman to the hospital. Both were shot in the arm.

The man was released the same day, while the woman remained hospitalized Monday. Her injuries are not life threatening, Fischer said.

The two were arguing with an unidentified man standing outside their window around 5 a.m., who police said then shot the couple.

No arrests have been made, but Public Safety Commissioner David Chong told Daily Voice Friday that "We know who we are looking for." He added that it may be the result of a domestic incident.
