WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A White Plains woman was accused of trying to use a steak knife to attack her boyfriend, who recorded the altercation on his phone, police said.

Maria Merrell, 33, was in an argument with the father of her baby Monday night in their Post Road apartment, police said. She grabbed a steak knife when the argument became heated and threatened to kill him, according to the police report. She then lunged at him with the knife, the report said. Their 19-month-old child was in the room.

The victim recorded Merrell’s actions on his cell phone, which he then took to police headquarters and gave to police when he filed charges.

Merrell was charged with second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
