WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A White Plains man was arrested and charged with pulling a six-inch knife on someone and threatening them outside the Galleria Mall's food court, White Plains police said.
Wayne Watkins, 57, was charged with third-degree menacing, a class B misdemeanor, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor. Watkins faces up to three months in jail on the menacing charge and up to one year in jail on the weapon possession charge.
The victim, a 29-year-old White Plains resident, told police he was walking under the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. underpass outside the Galleria Mall food court at around 10:15 a.m. Monday when the defendant walked passed him and asked "what are you looking at?"
The victim said he responded, "what's your problem?" Watkins then hurled derogatory comments at him and pulled out the knife from a black computer bag and threatened to stab him, while holding the knife pointed at him in what the victim called a threatening manner, police said.
Police said they later found a male fitting the description given in front of the bus stop at Martine Avenue and Court Street.
