The New Rochelle resident and White Plains substitute teacher died Feb. 7 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Maryland after complications from a later-term abortion. She was in the 33rd week of pregnancy.

She began the four-day procedure at Dr. LeRoy Carhart’s abortion clinic Feb. 3 and began experiencing complications Feb. 6. Amniotic fluid, the fluid that surrounds a baby in the uterus during pregnancy, spilled into her bloodstream, causing her to bleed to death early in the morning Feb. 7.

Operation Rescue, a national anti-abortion group, called for Carhart’s medical license to be revoked. Montgomery County police have closed the investigation after receiving the final medical examiner’s report, according to the Journal News report. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will continue to investigate the case.
