Police: Man Charged With PCP Possession Swallows Evidence

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Queens man was charged Saturday in White Plains with possession of phencyclidine (PCP), after he swallowed some of the evidence, according to a police report.

Police saw Steven Wortham, 44, holding something in his left hand and approached him at 11:50 p.m. at Orawaupum Street and Chestnut Hill Avenue. Police asked him to show what he was holding, but he quickly put the item in his mouth and began chewing it, the report says.

Believing Wortham had just swallowed contraband, police detained him. They then found on the ground next to the suspect a dark-tinted plastic bag with a vegetable-like substance that had been soaked in liquid. Police think it was PCP.

Wortham was released on his own recognizance and is due Aug. 30 in White Plains City Court.
