An unknown man demanded money when he entered Freedom Moving Co. on Westmoreland Avenue around 8 a.m. while holding what appeared to be a handgun, police said. Police do not have an exact amount that was taken, but said it was more than $1,000.
"We are investigating it as a robbery," Detective Lt. Eric Fischer said. "We are looking at a couple of different angles."
Original Story: WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery at a moving company at 39 Westmoreland Ave. Wednesday morning.
Police would not go into detail Wednesday on the incident because it is still under investigation. The company robbed was Freedom Moving Co.
The incident had business owners on Westmoreland Avenue talking about installing exterior cameras. One business owner said he couldn't imagine if something like this were to happen to his business and that his employees were frightened.
"Hopefully it's an unusual incident," he said.
Not only frightened, people said they were surprised the robbery happened during the peak hours of the day, drawing many police cars and the K-9 unit, one business owner said.
