WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A White Plains man, 18, was one of three men arrested June 16 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, which police believe to be cocaine, according to a police report.
Police saw four men standing behind a dumpster in a 9 Chester Ave. parking lot after 1 a.m. and inhaling a white powder they had poured from a red zip lock bag to the backs of their hands, the report said.
When an officer approached the group, two of the men ran away through the walkway toward Mamaroneck Avenue, police said. The other two, Alexander Rivera, of Bank Street, and Thornwood resident Nimrod Romero, 18, stayed. Both were arrested by one officer, while another chased after the two who ran, police said. While in pursuit, the report said the officer saw one of the men throw away a powdery substance, which he believed to be cocaine, before stopping him on Mamaroneck Avenue. He was identified as Kevin Torrest, 19, of Elmsford, and arrested, police said.
All three were charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class "A" misdemeanor. The total weight of the alleged cocaine was 0.44 grams.
