WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A light pole fell onto Court Street in White Plains Monday afternoon, narrowly missing a woman standing on the street, police said.

Police said the woman was not hurt when the pole fell around noon but was badly shaken up. She refused medical attention.

Police were not sure what caused the pole, which held street lights and a traffic sign, to fall. The Department of Public Works removed the pole in sections. Court street near Main Street remained closed after the incident.

It was unknown when Court Street would be reopened.

Mayor Thomas roach said the incident was being investigated.

"This is a well maintained city. This shouldn't happen," Roach said. "We are going to find out how it happened."
