New Bear Sighting, Threatening Phone Call Top North Castle Police Blotter

NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. - Police in New Castle are investigating an incident that saw an alleged phone scammer threaten to bomb a local’s home.

The North Castle Police Department received a call on Friday, Aug. 11 from a Bedford Road resident reporting that he had just received a threatening phone call.

Police said that the caller claimed he knew that the person on the other end of the call was attempting to scam him, but at one point in the conversation, he threatened to place a bomb in his house.

Officers responded to the home and a report has been made. The incident is being investigated.

Other items on the North Castle Police Department blotter from Friday, Aug. 11 through Thursday. Aug. 17 include:

  • Shortly before 4:20 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, police were dispatched to a stretch of North Avenue, where a caller reported that he was having withdrawal symptoms from not taking his medication. Officers responded to the scene and assisted in getting the man to Westchester Medical Center. His current condition was not immediately clear.
  • While responding to the caller who received a threatening phone call, officers reported to Police Headquarters that they spotted a black bear in the roadway on Middle Patent Road. Officers reported that the bear proceeded to run into the woods near the vicinity of Brookwood Road and Mianus Drive. The animal has not been seen since.
  • An off-duty Greenwich Police Sergeant reported on Monday, Aug. 14 that a white box truck struck a median on State Route 22, causing minor damage, and proceeded to continue traveling north onto I-684. Officers responded to the location and reported that there was minor damage to the median, but it wasn’t clear if it was related to the incident or had happened earlier. State Police and the New York State Department of Transportation were notified.
