GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Woodlands High/Middle School campus, at 475 West Hartsdale Ave. in Hartsdale, was put into lockdown mode at 11:50 a.m. on Friday after an anonymous threat was made.

The Greenburgh Police Department responded to the scene after school officials received "an anonymous threat that there was a weapon on the school grounds and the students were in danger,” police said.

The lockdown was lifted an hour later. All after schools programs have been canceled, and students have a regular dismissal.

Members of the Greenburgh Juvenile Aid Unit are currently investigating the incident.

A letter from the Superintendent was sent home with students today that stated:

"Dear Parents and Guardians, As always, safety is our main priority at the Greenburgh Central School District.  At approximately 11:42 this morning, Friday November 21st, Woodlands High School received an anonymous phone call indicating that, " There is someone in the building with a gun and you are not safe." We immediately implemented our emergency procedures to secure the students, faculty and staff. Woodlands complex as well as all other Greenburgh Central Schools were placed into immediate lockdown. The Greenburgh Police Department responded within minutes and secured the Woodlands campus. A thorough walkthrough of the grounds was conducted, and the lockdown was released within 45 minutes. Please note, that every effort was made and all district emergency procedures and protocols were followed. I am extremely proud of the professionalism and expertise displayed by administrators, staff and faculty to ensure the safety and security of our precious children. The collaborative effort between the Greenburgh Police and staff was exemplary and a model for all to follow. As of the writing of this letter, the children, teachers and staff are safe and continuing the business of teaching and learning. Thank you for your understanding, and please enjoy the weekend. Sincerely yours, Dr. Tahira A. DuPree Chase Interim Superintendent of Schools"
