The suspect was in a group of people who were arguing just before 2 a.m. Monday on South Broadway, police said. He was held back by a woman, police said. He was bleeding from his nose and had blood on his face, and police said they smelled alcohol on his breath.

Officers called an ambulance, but he refused to go to the hospital, police said. He then tried to walk back toward the group on the sidewalk who police believe he had been fighting with, police said. Police warned him to stop. When officers grabbed the suspect’s arm, he pulled away and pulled it back and clenched his fist as if to throw a punch, and then said “that’s why cops die,” according to the police report.

The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a violation. He then spit in the cop’s face, police said.
