White Plains Car Theft Suspect Arrested In Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. -- After a search on Friday, Harrison police arrested a man suspected of stealing a car in White Plains.

Kevin Redmond, 37, of White Plains, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, as well as obstruction of government administration and criminal contempt, both misdemeanors. He is currently being held and awaiting arraignment, police said. 

Police discovered the stolen car at 8:30 a.m., Friday, parked in West Harrison. Redmond was asleep in the backseat, according to police reports. When officers approached the car, Redmond fled on foot down Main Street toward the residential area, police said. 

Police set up a perimeter and conducted a door-to-door search with the assistance of detectives, K-9 units, White Plains police and the Westchester County police helicopter. After a short search, Redmond was found hiding in the basement of an illegal apartment in West Harrison, and taken into custody.
