New York State Police in Brewster received multiple complaints of fraud from customers of R&D Flooring on Route 22 in Brewster beginning in September last year, prompting an investigation by detectives.

Police said the investigation determined that LaGrange resident Raymond Demayo, 62, took thousands of dollars in payment from his victims and never performed any work or services in return. He was arrested by troopers on Tuesday. R&D has since been permanently closed.

Demayo was charged with three counts of third-degree grand larceny, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and scheme to defraud, all felonies. Following arraignment, he was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on March 13.

According to police, there may be additional victims in the Hudson Valley. Anyone who has interacted with Demayo or R&D Flooring has been asked to contact Investigator Melissa McMorris by calling (845) 677-7300.
